Disclaimer: This isn’t about anyone or directed towards anyone. Rather, I’ve been doing some soul searching and have been examining my own heart the last few days and this is just my own internal dialogue I have decided to share….
So you’re standing there on the edge of the diving board. Thinking about leaping, yet you hesitate. You continue to stand there with your toes dangling over the edge. You inch slightly forward, then back, then forward. In fact, you’ve almost leaped a couple of times, but at the last moment you step back. But why won’t you leap? Why is this situation different than any other? You have given your life to him, surrendered, and have asked him to use you for his glory. Have you not experienced his goodness, love, and grace over and over again? Has he not been faithful to you in all things? So why do you hesitate? Is it fear, unwillingness to give up control, not fully trusting in his plan, selfishness, putting the desires of your flesh over the desires of the spirit, or is it a combination of all of the above? So you step back once again, but this time, it is to examine his word:
Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
Isaiah 41:10
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Galatians 5:24
“And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”
Proverbs 3:27
“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.”
Jeremiah 29:13
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
James 4:10
“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.”
James 1:22
“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
^That last one hit me like a ton of bricks.
Knowing the truth that you know, knowing that he is with you always, knowing he is faithful, knowing he wants good for you, knowing that he does not lead you astray….knowing all of that and more…what are you going to do? Are you going to keep standing there with your toes dangling over the edge or are you going to jump? The choice is yours, but you know what the Spirit is guiding you to do. You’ve got to jump child.
